ironically the certification requirements are part of the reason why it seems this way, 'cuz the difference between 10^-6 and 10^-7 probability of failure equates to a bunch of useless batteries, redundant power systems, etc.

you just have to wait for the air mobility engineers to start some dialogue with the FAA and reach an agreement, this is difficult because air mobility engineers just like other college grads are fucking incompetents when it comes to actually getting stuff done.

pyrotechnic charges used during spacecraft reentry involves tons of moving parts, yet it's the only method that's unlikely to fail. As for electric, as the batteries and stuff heat up it changes the properties, current draw etc., so you have to account for all that. The motor itself is not very important. That's like saying, isn't a gasoline engine less likely to fail because the energy storage is just a metal box?

Which would be pretty bad, considering. But what would be much worse is being just a few hundred feet up with no time to react and not enough space to manage a glide into enough forward momentum to land safely.

You literally just defeated your own point. 6/12 motors can easily run at those higher power settings in an emergency. Also,

With 1/2 of the motors gone, you probably wouldnt survive the crash.
