>>1870742Picked up a GoPro Hero 10 a while back. Yeah, yeah, overpriced meme. But it comes with a subscription service for unlimited cloud storage, and as a commuter heck yeah I'll upload several GB of 4k video per day just for the lols.
Battery only lasts 90 minutes or so. It overheated on me once in the summer while watching an airshow in direct sunlight, but I've not had overheating problems while riding on a bike.
Think about whether you want helmet mount or chest mount. Helmet probably better for dashcam use, but if you want to make videos then chest mount is more watchable footage.
Also any non-rearmounted camera won't do shit if you get hit from behind. Even if you did look back in anticipation of being hit, the camera's FOV is lower than your peripheral vision, so odds are you didn't actually crank your head back far enough to record it.
Also not really useful for "close pass" moments, because the camera's sense of scale is way different than the human eye's. You'll look back at it on video and be like, "that's not going to convince anyone..."
I view a helmet cam as more of a, "Well, at least people who give a fuck about me will have some context around what happened when I die," than a, "this will be the evidence that gets the charges upgraded from 'unsafe right turn' to 'negligent homicide'!" Also creates plenty of evidence I'm a safe and law-abiding cyclist, so they've got some tiny shred of evidence to chase off the "all cyclists are suicidal" memes (hint, it won't work).
Oh, and I guess if I see a really bad accident as a spectator, camera means I can help out.
