In cace someone is genuinely interested to know more about living in a car free place you could just watch a documentary about an actual "car-free" island. This one is from Germany, cou can turn on automatic translation and english subtitles. Transportation is done with a cute train and small electic vehicles. Also they got boats and (cargo) bikes. Of course horses and carriages.
