-an XT30 or smaller would be sufficient
-you can buy glass lenses off aliexpress as an upgrade to the PMMA lenses that normally come iwth these things
-rear reflectors are not necessary for most LEDs since the SMD package has a little lens and they dont throw light out the side unlike a filament bulb
-the best way to have better heatsinking is to run multiple LEDs at lower currents, since they are much more efficient (watts/lumen) at lower power levels
-you can take a single mode LED driver board and replace the buck feedback resistor with a potentiometer to make a continuously dimmable LED without flickering and without a stupid flash mode you have to cycle thru. You can put a small resistor in series with this to set the maximum power somewhat lower than normal to keep the heat down and significantly increase (10x or more) the liftetime of the LEDs

I had to pry open the back plastic panel on the housing. It was held on by those clip-on teeth and, as the pic shows, was clearly not designed to ever be disassembled. Thin plastic card and flat head screwdriver did it.
I roughly cut out the hole in the plastic and filed it wider until I could fit the connector in and glued it to the pcb at an empty spot.
I then soldered the wires directly to battery connections with some heatshrink, cut away some more plastic (it cracked), closed it up, filled with silicone to protect against debris and called it a day.

Yes, I should've been patient in hindsight. I only had XT60s in my town.

These LEDs have a spherical dome filling and seem to spread light evenly in a hemisphere.

True, but my main goal with these lights was to make them "road-safe" by diverting the light that would otherwise go above the road into people's eyes and be useless. That would've been much harder to do with multiple LEDs and I've yet to find an ideal solution without buying a 200€ light.

Powerbanks are composed of smaller cells (same as laptop batteries) and if one cell fails the entire device is rendered useless.

There's powerbanks slash chargers for 18650 baterries on the market (18650 is like AA battery but bigger) and you could use dead laptop batteries to fill them, or buy new 18650s. Most tactical flashlights also work on them and you could skip buying bike lights altogether.

Jokes aside I like the idea of having one battery power all my shit on an outing and not having to worry about losing light mid-ride. Although I know some lights work while charging.

This one has a single 10000 mah lipo cell.

I have those but this way the power bank does everything. I have to carry one on whole day/multiday rides anyway.

You mention watts being stolen via a dynamo...so what is the total weight of your lighting setup here? Your legs are responsible for the watts after all. Since you're into modifying, why not modify (if needed) a small solar panel to trickle charge the battery pack? Or better yet, I have a powerbank just like yours there but also has a solar panel on the entire flat surface of one side, made/branded by Subaru that does just that. They are cheap to buy and on eBay every now and then.

I wouldn't count the powerbank weight simply because I would need to carry it anyway when I need this much light time.
I could just do a cafe stop every second day so this is as complicated as I am willing to make it right now.

I have those usb chargeable lights, they last for at least 10 of my commutes, who know how much longer they'll last as I habitually recharge them every Friday. They are extremely light, do the job and are easy to install/remove. I see no reason for any other kind of system, except perhaps for someone on a proper tour or bike packing trip.

I imagine a 7.4V light should do fine being run off a USB-C PD power bank with a 9V decoy board. A fully charged 7.4V battery starts around 8.4V.

Just solder wire and a connector to one of these doodads.

Next year I might look at getting an Edelux DC 170 and run it from a power bank with 15V decoy board.

if its an LED light it will normally have a buck or boost converter running in current control. Normally they will quote a voltage range that the light can take, e.g. 7-12V. Look for that. If there is no quoted range, but its designed for 2S lithium, then yeah you should be fine since full charge is 8.4V, i cant expect the capacitors to fail at 9V. In the worst case, if its a boost converter you might encroach on the dimmest setting, but it shouldn't break anything.

Pretty genius desu. Although that way the usb c port could get damaged during rough riding and it would introduce another boost/buck converter in series which would be less efficient.
