What wheels are you guys using these days.
Are we done with flat bladed spokes yet?
Are alloy rims over?
Does PoE matter? Between Shimano, Campy, and SRAM, why does only SRAM seem to care about it?

Only in trials, BMXs and other technical disciplimes IMO.

What does hookless bring to the table really? As far as I see the only thing it does is dissalowing tyres without kevlar/carbon beads to be fitted. That is less features, not more.
What's with roadies compromising convenience and safety for... nothing? A gram?

Why would you bottom out or why would you hit a pothole? Presumably, you wouldn't do it intentionally, but it could still happen. I've certainly dented an alloy rim that way, can't say I was happy about it, and that incident always pops into my head when I'm thinking about getting a carbon wheelset

Lightweight vs aero rims?
I read a study from windtunnel tests which suggested that deep aero rims were about 3% more aero at best. By comparison you can become 5% more aero by dropping your handlebars by 20mm.

Alu rims with square or slightly round profile (such as dt swiss) are significantly cheaper and probably make hills a little easier.

Depends on your definition of 'aero'
20 years ago anything deeper than 19mm would be aero, these days 29mm is just a regular climber rim and only when you get past about 45mm do people start to consider it 'aero'
This meshes pretty well with the fact that diminishing returns kick in around 40mm

Can you suggest an alloy, disc-specific, 700c rim that is over 28mm outer width? Because it seems like manufacturers pretty much gave up after hed belgium plus and the only way to go wider is to get carbon

Hookless allows low pressure MTB tires to work better and has advantages in bortoming out. The reason why brands are trying to bring it to road is that it's cheaper.

Yes. The zip tie truer sees himself with a Park pro stand in the future. He is aspirational.

The budget stand truer is the true poorfag. Poorfags are often spending (wasting) money.

I knew someone would say that lol. I'm not a giga poorfag so I'm willing to spend 150$ on a truing stand to build a wheelset, but I'm poorfaggy enough that I'm not going to spend 400$ on a fucking Parktool stand that I'm not going to use for a long time once I'm done with the wheel build.
I'd rather spend the money on better components like DT Swiss hubs.

Road tires are going to lower pressure but not that low. Hookless can't handle above 5 bars according to the manufacturers. For a big guy that's a really low pressure on 25s. And if you're racing 25s are still the only real option unless you're on really rough roads. All you're doing with road hookless is limiting your market by leaving out all the fat freds with plenty of money to spend. Also road tires aren't supposed to bottom out. If they do you've hit a massive pothole, curb, or something similar at speed. And it doesn't help as much since all of those impacts can fuck up your wheel even if it doesn't actually bottom out.

I have had this Minoura stand for about 5 years now and I don't have any reason to complain about it. In my opinion it's not great for TA axles, but I don't own any bikes with TAs anymore so that's not a problem for me. I've built about 12 sets of wheels with it and I also use the Park Tool tensionmeter, all of my wheels are good to go.

I thought it was a given that when discussing hooked vs hookless the context was tubeless, aka 700x32 minimum. Is it even possible to run a tube in a hookless rim? Can a 700x23 be run tubeless? beware of getting draggy extra seals in the hubs on some versions ie, 'CX', you might think it's stronger spec, but it's just draggier spec.

Depends on whether road or gravel/ mtb and whether rim or disc.
Road can handle a lower spoke count so can be a lot lighter, look for wheelsets of around 1.5kg alu rims are cheaper than carbon and deep aero rims are imo a waste of money unless you are actually racing and average at least 18-20mph, disc wheels need more spokes due to the uneven forces from disc braking, so they'll always be heavier (disc rotor adds weight too). I'd recommend looking up some reviews for alu rim wheelsets and find the lightest within your budget and avoid ordering directly from china as even if the wheelsets are of good quality, the couriers might and do destroy the wheels as they don't give a fuck.

I run 700x32 and am faster than my 700x25 friend on real roads (not perfectly smooth tarmac)

I can also prove that 23 - 32mm tires are about the same speed when adjusted for same relative pressure.
