Did any of you ever fly in a 747? What was it like? Did you get to check out the upstairs lounge or was that long gone?

I flew on a KLM 747, the city of bangkok. It was a very comfy airplane to fly on. I got to sit around row 22 so it was just 3 seats and no centre row. The seats were still old style and there was good pitch compared to modern shitliners with plastic seats.

Probably the most comfortable boeing aircraft ot fly on. The 777 sucks dick in every possible way. I didn't go upstairs but I saw the staircase.

I walked upstairs in an A380. It was cool I guess, kind of a weird sensation going upstairs on a moving aircraft.

Flew a couple of times (mostly KLM now that I think of it) first time was in 1994 from Amsterdam to Atlanta as a kid. We were sitting in the very front row on the lower deck and I got to visit the cockpit.

First and only time was when I flew on picrel (same livery) when I was about 10. I had no idea what a 747 even was at the time.

I flew on a 777 recently, and it was quite disconcerting how in level flight with no turbulence, the tail of the plane (where I was sat one way) was flapping up and down all the time. You could really tell you were in a bendy tube very far away from where it was being supported. The other direction I was sat near the wing, and there was no such flapping.

Used to fairly frequently. Standard economy sucked. Premium economy was a bit better. Upstairs, in business, was way better.
But the planes were old and showing it, especially in terms of noise. Newer plane designs are just much better like that.

I flew on Lufthansa EWR-FRA when I was a teenager for an exchange trip through my dad's company and have no idea what airplane it was. I remember it being a quad jet and I think I remember a staircase (they upgraded me to first class on the return trip) , but I didn't know shit about planes then. This would have been in 2010

For a minute I worked at Baltimore-Washington International airport as a cabin cleaner. One of the planes we had come in was a Jumbo from Atlas. It was for transporting troops. I quit because the other workers made fun of me and I couldn't clean fast enough.

Flew SEA to LHR and back on a British Airways 747-200 back in '97. I was traveling with a couple senior citizens so my group got early boarding. It was a full flight and the captain took pretty much every foot of runway 34R to get off the ground. Economy class comfort was typical for the time, maybe with a little more headroom.
On the return flight I tried to read a book while everyone was boarding and turned on my overhead light and plugged in my headphones, the audio was scratchy and the switch in the armrest of my seat actually turned on the light over the seat behind me, WTF? I brought it to the attention to one of the attendants, and about two minutes later they "rebooted" the airplane, all lights and the HVAC appeared to power cycle. When everything came back the controls responded as designed and the onboard audio was clean. I guess they had an off by one error in the multiplexed light controls? IDK.

Flew Stockholm - Bangkok on Thai Airways 747-400 once when I was a kid but don't remember much of that anymore. I've been planning on getting on Lufthansa 747-8 flight somewhere before that plane type in forever retired from passenger service.

Flew to Beijing in one in 2015. Didn't get to check out the upstairs but it was comfy. We were on a pretty empty flight so I got redneck first class with a whole row to myself.

I sweep garbage in the city. And the toilets? That wasn't part of my job. We just collected the trash from the flights, wiped the tray tables, collected blankets and pillows, and vacuumed the seats etc.

Yes I have, and still do regularly. I fly for a large cargo operator and its a very comfy gig when you're on the road. Bunks for the crew, meals, and comfortable first class seats if you don't feel like sleeping. In flight it feels like any other airplane because the cockpit is honestly kind of small but there's a few moments where you realize the scale of the machine, most notably when taxiing or in the flare for landing, just because the sight picture is so much higher than anything else.

Nope, buy my father did. All on -100 series to my knowledge. First on Air India to Bombay, then on Flying Tiger Line in the top deck (it was a cargo aircraft, so no downstairs), finally on PAN AM to New York.

He has flown on all non-regional Western airliners made between 1945 and 1985. The exceptions are DH106 Comet, ATL-98 Carvair (though he did load and unload them often) and Dassault Mercure.
