Prices won't come down, but dealers will be discounting entry and mid-level bikes to try and clear out inventory. As for MY23 bikes, those mid and entry-level bikes are in warehouses already and/or there's not just going to be MY23 models for lots of things since there are so many MY22 bikes left in inventory. For high end bikes, I'd guess this summer is when the industry will catch up to the end of the pandemic demand bullwhip effect for those.

I'm surprised the bike industry didn't implode on itself as covid became endemic (for the most part). Other industries who saw record gains and sized up to meet demand crashed hard as things shifted back to prepandemic levels, well probably worse than prepandemic levels now thanks to the obliterated economy.

Some companies in the cycling space (Peloton, and RadPower if I recall reading correctly) are suffering implosions like that. But established bike brands and manufacturers have been through plenty of boom and bust cycles before and knew to plan as best they could to ride the COVID wave while aiming to minimize problems caused by the bullwhip effect.

The reason it didn't was because they knew it wasn't going to be a forever thing. Pre-coroma cyclists were seething about the shortage of tubes and stuff like that but in the end we lived through it. Sure we got a larger than normal batch of neophytes who formed enough of a subculture that they irritated everyone else but for the most part those people have either quit or been smoothed out into normal cyclists by now.

Hello me. Started cycling a bit before Covid hit, but being smartworking from home every day allowed me to start riding more often, from there it was a clow rollercoaster.
Haha me no need spandex, me chill cool hip guy. (slowly buy a full llycra set and now own winter and summer sets)
Haha no need more than one bike, I have my hybrid. (sold the hybrid, I have a MTB and a carbon Road bike, both from used market)
Haha I dont need indoor trainer, I will just go out. (bought a cheap indoor trainer a few weeks ago).

You wont get sale prices on the fancy ones. But I imagine tons of cheap ass crap getting stuck in the warehouses as demand offer cycle repeats once again. Its a good time to get a new commuter bike I guess. Probably used market will stop being retarded and prices will go down in that department.

Picked this late 80's off road tourer for £120 6 years ago, except for a couple of services and the usual replacement tyres/cables/pads I spent nothing on it.

It's hand built fillet brazed with Columbus tubing, the ride is extremely comfortable and it's bomb proof. It's so versatile, I use it for my daily commuter, I take it on day treks, it carries all my panniers when I go camping, it's a joy on and off the road.

This bike will still be going in 40 years. I have no idea why ANYONE with a brain would buy a new bike, absolutely insane.

Picrel is an OG mtb converted to 700c, bought it in an auction this year for £140, pretty much what you said except mine is going to be slightly quicker on the pavement and slightly less capable off it, which is fine as I put fenders on it and use it solely for wet day commutes.

I bought a few new bikes when I was younger, but eventually realised that if you know what you're looking for and have patience you can get so much more bang for your buck if you buy a well looked after used bike.

Most of us fell into the consoomer trap at some point, I feel some sympathy for those still stuck in the pointless 'The latest model' spending vortex.

the value proposition of used is simply insane, but you still have to spend time looking for that value
in the end a $1000 brand new bike can also last at least 20 years of daily usage and it's still going to be excellent value

And now it is time for the same retrogrouches who were attacking "uncomfortable race bikes" for years to now turn around and say only care for comfort and if I was a REAL cyclist who knew how to ride I'd enjoy getting my ass pounded for hours by a "fistful of seatpost" and 120 PSI tires.

Oh also they same people who promote dutch bikes because they are more "inclusive" and easier for non-athletes and women to operate will now say that actually hydraulic disc road groupsets are unnecessary because REAL cyclists have ginormous hands with the grip strength of a professional athlete to stop effectively.

Cope all you want but the amount it's going to take to upgrade an antique to modern standards and still fall short isn't worth it to most people, those builds are for instagram not real life.
