G&W is a shitty company that preforms services normal railroads deem too unprofitable to do themselves but cannot cut off due to FTC/Commerce Dept action. Classic example is UP dumping their Santa Cruz branchline off on G&W as subcontractors, who let it rot away to near total abandonment. Currently the Santa Cruz city gov't is figuring out what to do with all this property they're about to get free from UP as a result.

That said all rail companies are shitty companies, so I guess it works out.
