this is semantic nonsense. Many hybrids are fairly aggressive and many road bikes are not.

Also 'comfort' is a misnomer. You will be uncomfortable climbing out of the saddle on a bicycle without much reach. An aero position is not necessarily uncomfortable for a trained person. Managing fatigue after all is one of the most important parts of performance, and any acute discomfort is going to severely limit how far you can ride and how much you can train.

I think a balls on the top tube fit is usually good unless it makes the bike too long.
Balls on the top tube means you're riding the largest frame size you can, and the front end is as high as it can be, meaning either it facilitates high bars, or, a small/stiff stack.

If you look at pic rel, this setup is obviously not balls on top tube, they've sized down, but the front end could be WAY higher than it is now, with a riser stem and riser bars, and it could be closer too, with swept bars.
I wouldn't normally recommend a flat bar bike, or a singlespeed, but they are absolutely the easiest to modify the fit on.

You will find when you actually ride a bike rather than just test ride or cruise it, that 'as upright as possible' is not comfortable. An arched back and being able to stretch out some will work better for riding. So don't overcompensate. Remember bike sizes change in 2cm increments, it's easy to achieve more than that with your cockpit.

Basically you want a bike that is taller than it is long, and as tall as you can stand over, and then you will be able to make it work for you by adjusting the cockpit.

So I definitely recommend a drop bar endurance road bike, with claris or sora groupset.

You can get the bars up with a different stem, and possibly reduce the reach with more compact bars. You'll have to budget to experiment with stems, and re-cabling the bike. It's a worthy expense because fit is the most important thing on a bike.

The ballsack test is a rough rule of thumb. It depends on things like sloping top tube, tyre size and BB height. As long as the top tube isn't j-j-jamed up in your junk when you're standing over it it's probably fine. In fact, if your balls are hanging completely free above the top tube I'd take that as an indication the frame _might_ be too small.

Very common complaint with people not accustomed to riding a road bike. It takes a fair bit of training to get used to. Question is if that's something you're willing to go through.
And don't slam your stem.

Basically you should be able to fit an entry level / endurance road bike to have the drop bars at your saddle level. That is a reasonable relaxed position, and to ride into wind etc you favour the drops more than most other roadies would. That is a sensible fit.

If you desire them to be -above- the saddle, you should train core strength, flexibility, do planks, get gud, etc. Or look into a meme type of bike. Above the saddle the problem is you.

I got the elops 500 and its the first time I’ve had a road like bike.
The top tube rests on my pelvic bones and it’s uncomfortable not to say painful.
The saddle hurts my ass but they may be because I’m fat.
The position you have to ride in this thing is such that you can’t really look ahead very well.
And to climb up on it is very hard for me at 170cm of height.
This may be the wrong bike for me but it’s fun as fuck when I get out. The orange color is handy on the road because you will be seen no matter what.
Don’t know what I’d buy if I went to an lbs. What about state bicycles?

i was wrong. i got the recomended size which was M. there was an S but its for 150cm/160cm according to decathlon.

Anon body height has little to do with correct frame size. You need to measure inseam height which is exactly the height of your plums knocking on top tube. You gotta select sizes smaller than inseam height.
I am 176cm and chart recommended M/L with L being too large. Ended up getting S size because I can comfortably stand with the bike not working on me plums and saddle column doesn't have to be pulled out too much.
Should've got the M size but downsizing is real and is preferred to oversizing, bike feels comfy and agile beneath me, plus it is a proven fact smaller size bikes look much better than large ones.
