op here again hewo
>>1884691because vbrakes are for poor people!
cant have poor people parts on my fancy road bike nooooo
>>1884753for me its mud and particularly slippery bumpy roots where i like cantis most
when im getting jostled around and sliding around im too busy controlling the bike to concentrate on millimeter precision with my fingers but these are the exact moments where i need precise braking the most
on vbrakes i find im either locking up my wheels and loosing control or too scared to brake i just cant stay in that 2mm threshold between rolling and locked, just too grabby, vbrakes are like on off switches
bought an old junker with cantis on and after looking up how to set their geometry and get them with a nice balance between the grabbyness of vbrakes or the suuuuuper progressiveness of drums i feel ive got really good control now on the slippery and / or rough bits
i can brake more confidently and get pretty close to the threshold of grip
ngl but i also think they just look nice desu
looking to get a more modern bike again though with more aggressive geo and perhapse suspension again but i just cant go back to vbrakes now im spoiled
and with disks its either the maintenance nightmare of (and cost) hydraulics or the same grabby feel of cable disks
i feel like cantis were the peak of brakes i have no idea why vbrakes were even invented they suck
