What if we purposefully tried to make flying and driving as unenjoyable and painful as humanly possible by significantly increasing costs, delays, and traffic as an attempt to force transportation modal change in society? For example, by purposefully shutting down streets to cars and making routes extremely circuitous you could make driving slower than walking and extremely unenjoyable. Or by cutting the amount of staff the TSA have and doubling the amount of security they have to do to make airports even more hellish to spur train usage or preventing the trips at all.
