I'd say it's because smart people are often more neurotic.
Or, less popular, and so with less social support to develop the skills to do something which increases your sociability.
Or, from a middle-class background which has already adopted urbanism and is more environmentally conscious, or, just lives in a fancy city with good alternatives.
