MTB has wider tires that don't have to be filled up with as much air pressure. They also normally have shocks/suspension that absorb a lot of bumps from rough terrain. This makes a relatively comfy ride even on a rigid bike.

Both of those things are less efficient than the thinner, higher pressure tires and rigid frames on a road bike. Road bikes are also designed to put you into a position that's more aerodynamic than the MTB and happens to be less comfortable. There are some frames and styles within road bikes that might be more comfortable than others, I'd imagine a touring or cyclocross/gravel bike to be more comfortable than a track bike for instance, but I can't say that it'll be as comfortable as your MTB.

I think it's just a compromise thing, and you just need to figure out what level of comfort to speed is good for you.

OP are you obese ? Road bikes are comfy AF. Get a TT bike for extra comfy as you can shift alot of weight to your shoulders and also keep if off your wrists. But if youre obese there might still just be too much weight, everywhere.

In time, they will eventually become the norm. A bit like fixed gears wend geared bikes.
While I can't see the appeal of a fixed gear - for i love descending too much - I'm not blind to innovation and trends, hence I do not take part in such silly quarrels muscular vs electric bicycle; for me, a bicycle is a way of moving around while burning calories. Hence, no batteries.

"endurance road bike" or "gravel bike" are what you are looking for. i got back into cycling with an old 10 speed road bike, and the position was definitely uncomfortable. my modern bike is comfy and fast
