What is it about this mishap in particular that makes the dumbs get all horny for jesus juice? To the best of my knowledge nobody went all holy holy hallelujah when the sioux city thing happened or the gimli glider or countless other mishaps involving forced landings.

It happened on the big stage of the media capital of America not long after 9/11, when people were looking for a feel good story to get over the trauma.
I was working in a park in lower Manhattan and we were all freaked out when news started trickling out about a plane down in the Hudson, then there was the immense relief that everyone survived. Later that night the empty plane drifted down the Hudson and they tied it off to the seawall of our park. The next morning I got close enough to touch it.

A ditching with no fatalities is gonna be a big deal. They usually don't end well. I know, I know: It was in the river and not the ocean so it wasn't as difficult. No doubt what Al Haynes and his crew pulled off was more impressive but most pilots couldn't do what Sully managed to.

The a320 was still flying in normal law with alpha protection so the plane basically did all the work. He could just pull back as far as he wanted on the stick and it would have automatically pitched to the maximum angle it could without stalling. If it was a 737 he probably would have killed everyone on board.

It's America. They fucking clap and pray when a plane lands. The entire country is addicted to God. Not much difference between the USA and Afghanistan. Both countries are full of religious extremism, hatred, violence and weapons.
