>>1891074most bottle cages rely on the flexibility of plastic bottles, and a large groove in the bottle to clip into. farely standard stuff since the 1970s
with steel bottles having no standard size you have to be very specific about what bottles and cages you buy
using electrical tape I padded out a 600 ml Klean Kanteen to a circumference of 246 mm and jamm that into a Velocity bottle trap
>note about steel bottlesavoid bottles square corners, they dent easily and form pinhole leaks
double insulated bottles do not have this problem so much, as the outside layer can be very battered and cause no leaks
but a 600 ml double insulated bottle is about the same bulk as a 800 ml single insulated
800 ml bottles are too bulky and heavy to hold securely or access conveniently, but are nice to have for sheer volume of water, good for rides longer than 8 km
Stainless steel bottles will leech chrome into the water for quite some time, you'll be able to taste this for the first few months of use
also the bottle tends to retain the flavour of what was last in it, for around three days
its best not to leave water in the bottle for more than a month, lime or moss can build up
I keep a bottle washing brush aside that's never used with soap,
