Cut my ride 10 km short today because my rear tire was getting much too flat. I didn't have my pump partly because fixing a flat outside in the winter is not something I'd even bother trying considering how much trouble my studded tires are to mount indoors. I stopped at a gas station for air, but the presta adapter I bought 8 months ago was still sitting on my computer desk. An LBS was only 7 blocks away so I rode over there to pump up my tire to ride home. Annoyingly the bike shop is on the second floor of their building.

Call me a bitch or whatever but I hate the cold so much it's unreal. I can't wait for it to be 90F with 80% humidity again. I love everything about the heat, the way everything smells, the way to sticks to you, the way it radiates off the road and embraces you, being soaked in sweat. it's absolute bliss. It's supposed to be mid 80s next week and I can't fucking wait.

Imo summer is fine, just like winter is. I enjoy a ride at -200C more than 400C, true that. But IMO the worst is that time in between, when temperatures are just above 00C. Everything is always wet, remains wet, cagies are already or still tossing salt everywhere and usually the scene is just gray.

Really felt like car drivers were actively trying to kill me today. 3 occasions of people just actively making an effort to be deliberately dangerous - on a 20 mile ride. I had written up a whole greentext but that's gay. It at least helped me to work it through in my brain.

The thing is, I've tried to talk about such "events" to people IRL and I've got the usual "It's no use being in the right and dead HAHAHAHA" when it isn't even about that, I couldn't give less of a shit about right of way, as much as I do want to die, I don't want people literally trying to kill me when I'm just trying to not be fat.

When I was riding home yesterday there were 6 widely spaced vehicles parked on the side of the gravel road that runs past the airport near the approach. Apparently the exciting event was a 787 landing. Usually the biggest planes we get are 737s, but now its most Q400s.

Today while riding I noticed that my brakes felt rather weak and were making a lot of noise. Upon inspection, it became clear that yesterday's ride had shook both of my calipers loose to the point that they were just sliding around on the mounts.

The most scary part of this is that after the gravel section I had ridden a pretty long, steep road decent. Almost certainly with super loose brakes.

Even though I'm really coming down with something went for my daily ride (after running in the morning already). Glad I did, weather was too nice in the afternoon not to. Warmed up to almost 70 and we had a good mix of sun and clouds despite an overcast forecast. Got to break out the short sleeve shirt which fits so much nicer than the long sleeve top I really like. Today I'm alive but tomorrow I might really be suffering given my last experience with covid (not confirmed but possible).

My front brake froze multiple times on today's ride. I figured once the ice was broken it wouldn't refreeze. I'd rather not have to disassemble the brakes again like I had to do last spring.

The past few days were the kind of wet freezing road conditions I'd have been better off not riding, but I've got a riding streak to extend. Currently at 28 days in a row, breaking my previous streak by 10 days.

This shit's getting old. The only thing making it tolerable is that the wind has been unusually light recently. -24C tonight and then it is finally going to get into melting temperatures.

Went on a 'my first forty' ride recently. Three groups A, B, C, split up by estimated average speed. Should've done B but I panicked and hung casually spun with the C people at 12 mph. Split away with three others who wanted to go faster and bumped up to 15 mph for the second half. 40 miles was easy, being a commuter really pays off. Passed by a Pub with a dragon which was fun.

Welp, it's warm enough that everything in the city that is unpaved will be unrideable for a few weeks. Gravel roads outside the city should be mostly fine with the odd mud pit. I hope the snow melts fast and at least the road dry this week. I did an evening ride today because it was windy all day. The whole bike was covered in wet sand by the time I got home.

200 meter is not a big deal. But that final hill looks very steep. Unless you are ok with walking a bit, I'd avoid that route till you gain a bit more power and confidence.

Even if >>1903346 has MTB tier low gears he is still gonna suffer on that 80 m climb wall. I'd say he should try and eventually just walk those couple km if he doesnt feel like doing them on the bike. there is no shame and its better than lurching at slow speed destroying your knees.

Im riding what is essentially a 3 speed mountain bike thats geared to climb hills so
I did a little over half of it today starting at the top of the hill round trip
I walked up the last 200 meters or so of hill on the way back because my legs my legs were wobbly

I removed the front rack / handlebar bag support from my touring bike today. I don't like riding with a lot of weight up front and it makes the bars flop to the side when stopped. So I might as well sell the VO rack and bag that goes with it.

A little more work to do as my dynamo light was attached to the rack so I need to unplug the wires and wrap the slack around a fork leg, then install the light on the fork crown. Moving it onto the fork crown will also get ride of the tire shadow in the near field lit area which was an aesthetic annoyance.

Today was the last of my 5am rides to cover the busier roads while riding the entire city. Riding early is comfy until you bump into rush hour. I'll probably do a lot of early riding again this year to avoid having to wear sunscreen. Won't be long before it starts getting light around 4:30 am.

My riding streak is up to 37 days, yesterday I had doubled my previous longest streak. Rain this afternoon and snow tonight so I'll end up with a very messy bike if I ride tomorrow.

finally figured out how to do the entire Atlanta beltline including the northern part that isn't even bought yet. I've been doing the unbuilt sections that were only dirt for years but the tricky part is the northern bit, you have to cross the interstate, peachtree creek, the rail yard and Marta tracks. currently the beltline is not finished but either in construction or there are neighborhood footpaths most of the way. then it puts you on Huff road at the NW end which you take to the water works. then roads north and west until you get over the interstate and on Collier road which is the only eastern cut-through to Peachtree at Piedmont hospital, which the beltline is eventually going to run along the back side of.
now was the only time I had to consult a map: the other end of the beltline is very nearby but there's no official way to get there. I took a chance that I could get there through the little cul-de-sac rich neighborhood across Peachtree there and luckily there's a "private park -- members only" trail that gets you to Peachtree Creek, cross that and bushwack the woods to the left and eventually there's a path that puts you up to the railroad tracks and you can see the graffiti tunnel and abandoned interstate bridge (pic related) that leads to the current NE terminus of the beltline.
I did it. the whole beltline. I wonder how many other people have done it so far.

when you hear it squeaking, lube it. if it's noticably dirty, clean it, then lube it.
autism about how best to get it totally clean and what is the best lube is something most of us do at least at first, until you buy a few chains and realize most chains cost like $10 or $15 bucks, I for one concluded that super autism is just not worth either the time or money. get a chain checker from a reputable brand. keep the chain lubed and wipe the excess so road grime will not stick to the outer surfaces. replace the chain when the tool says replace. that's all I care about at this point

I'm going on a ride along a disused railway track tomorrow, it will include a tunnel section. If anyone's interested I'll take some pics and post them here. I'm already feeling excited about it, just gave my bike the once over, it's all running smooth and quiet. I will say the speedplay take a bit of getting used too for clipping in but that'll come with time.

After 40 consecutive days riding I might be done for most of this week. 60 km/h wind for the next 3 days as a system blows in and out and as much as 8" of snow. I might be able to squeeze in a ride this evening if the wind dips enough.

Had too much pressure on the hands the way I had the bars before. My wattage is kinda weak for my weight so my legs don’t provide as much balance and support often. It’s an endurance style frame so I’m under no pretensions of this being anything close to a race setup. Long rides feel great. I do agree a more rotated bar would look better, I am considering taking the spacers down another 5mm as I do want to adapt myself for a more aggressive style frame. Glad you like the colors at least.

Wind had picked up to 50 gusting to 70 km/h in the afternoon but I went for a ride anyway. Sticking to narrower streets when going up wind blocked most of the wind. It ended up being a very pleasant ride.

5am pre-ride flat needed fixing. I really should have checked it last night, the handling felt a little odd while cornering towards the end of yesterday's ride. Windy start, then the wind died down ... when it started raining. Still not bad as I overdressed a little for the wind. 20 cm of snow tomorrow, so my riding streak ends at 42 days. Flat was a poorly adhered patch that allowed a tear to grow larger. The tear is about an inch long now, so I should get a new spare tube. I patched it anyway with a wide oval patch.

I almost put the fat bike away on the weekend. 50 km/h gusts this evening but the snow had stopped. The slushy roads quickly froze over. The perfect ice for studded tires where you don't need to be cautious at all. Even the deep snow had enough moisture that I maintained full traction when I plowed into it. Normally we get powder that causes the tires to float and slip around or spin out the rear in the deeper stuff.

I would have been fine with my mountain bike, but I already took the studded tires off and am not putting them back on for a few days. Looks like the snow will stick around a while, more snow tomorrow and its not getting above freezing. At least the wind will be lower.

Saskatchewan. It's fairly typical to get a storm mid-late April. The snow had entirely melted and I put the summer tires back on my mountain bike. The water is high so most of the MUP underpasses are flooded.

More wet snow and wet roads today, so I waited until they started freezing over to go for a ride. I was surprised to see the city went to the trouble to plow the MUPs. Shortly into the ride it started snowing again, at least the snow just bounced off my face instead of melting on contact.

A few deep spots this morning that required pushing. With the snow being moist it caked up my cleats. For upwards of 1/4 of the ride I couldn't clip in at all, which is frustrating. It started getting slushy towards the end, the snow should be mostly gone by Monday. The ice should be extra crunchy and poppy tomorrow morning. Frozen slush can be almost deafening to ride on.

I've been getting a lot more rides in than usual so far this year. It's been a fairly mild winter. Since I've got a good streak going since early March I've been a little more willing to ride in borderline awful weather. Up to 45 days in a row as of today, 2100 km since last non-riding day, averaging 46.7 km / ride. The last 3 days have been below average distance, around 30 km rides in the snow.

I certainly didn't need to have the fat bike today, I probably could have gotten away without studded tires if I stuck to arterial roads. Most of the snow melted off the road yesterday despite it only getting up to 3C with scattered clouds. Warmer and full sun today, so the roads will be totally clear by the end of the day. Back to my mountain bike with summer tires tomorrow.

The roads are mostly dry now. Daytime highs are still kind of meh. Its easier to dress for early cool rides than warmer later day rides where I'd either freeze or get drenched in sweat. I've got a gap in my clothing options for around 10C, I could use a lighter weight windproof jacket.

The doctor pretty much assured me the chest discomfort I was having was some kind of costochondritis (even though its pretty different from last time). So not long after coming home, despite my back still being kinda fucked I went out at out had a real awesome little evening ride. I might rack up a few more miles tonight. Attempted a PR to improve my top 10 time and see how well I could challenge the KOM in my literal backyard but finding 6 seconds on such a short hill segment will be tougher than I realized.

Eager to join some beginner group rides now that I've routinely proven to myself I can keep up.

I let them past even though there was no point because I couldn't go faster than the pickup I was behind, and *then* they were mad that I was following them. Of course I am you fat fuck, what did you think was going to happen.

Those were the most difficult pedals I've ever removed probably took me over an hour with one of those huge Park PW4 wrenches. At one point I decided to use my air impact gun to no effect. When I finally got them off there were still signs of anti-seize on the threads. The pedals threaded back in easily, I used grease instead of anti-seize this time

The pedal that was extra wobbly had its axle seal disintegrate so moisture was able to work is way in. I got most of the play out of it. Pedals have the tiniest bearings.

50th day in a row riding today. It warmed up enough I can switch back to summer shoes, though I'll take my shoe covers. Switching from my clipless boots requires lowering the saddle a 1/4 to 1/2". Next week might be warm enough to ride without a jacket.

Think I'm getting close to the end of my riding streak. If I wasn't dog sitting I probably wouldn't ride today. Going back and forth a few times will get me 12 km a day today and tomorrow if I don't do any other riding.

But the weather is nice Monday so I may take either the road bike or touring bike out for the first time this year. Sometimes switching bikes is as good as a rest.

Set a whole bunch of PRs today. First decently long ride in a week. I've been doing lots of hills though as little as I've managed to ride recently, and weight loss has helped for the climbs for sure. Probably improved my FTP a bit too compared to my previous estimates? Feel pretty satisfied just wish I did more actually. Went a new route but not sure I'll be repeating it. Fucking nasty road surface, basically more suitable for gravel tires. I'll be getting a new (used) bike in a few days and it should be a bit of an upgrade, so extra motivation to explore my potential there. Maybe I can think of setting a top 10 on those segments in the future, but they are somewhat popular. Until then I'll have to be satisfied with my standings on these more meme segments.

I tried being clever attaching an old gopro to my jacket using a hard drive magnet. Stayed securely attached, but flopped up and down resulting in unwatchable video. Maybe if I attach the metal plate to an old HR strap.

I need to do a ride after dark so I can aim my dynamo light. I moved it from the rack to fork crown after taking the front rack off my touring bike. It's a trial an error kind of thing since the light is only bright while moving. The stand light is very dim.

I could hear a bad noise coming from my rear hub toward the end of today's ride. No grease at all left in the drive side. Some damage to the cone, freehub race and bearings so I just cleaned everything up filled it with grease and put it back together.

28C when I started a ride this evening, and just a few weeks ago I was still wearing a balaclava on rides. Pelted by a few insects. I forgot that my everyday glasses don't work well when riding drop bars, the riding position has me looking at the top of the frames. Last year I'd just wear my old glasses for rides.

Yesterday ended up being the last day of my riding streak, 58 days in a row starting back on March 8th. There were 2 blizzards during that period where I managed to find a window to ride. Riding plus doing yard work this week has worn me out. Might as well take advantage of the less good weather for a break.

Make sure you're sitting comfortably because I have a funny story.
Replaced the cleats on my shoes, but I still had the tension on the pedals dialled up to compensate for the wear on the old ones... short story long I thought I was clipped in when I wasn't, stamped on it to go and road rage at a car 'driver' who was millimetres away from knocking me off, but instead flew off the pedals and slammed my dick on the stem so hard I smashed the screen on my GPS. Weirdly it doesn't hurt but my ball sack is now purple.

I was scanning through the ADS-B flight tracking playback to see if and when the aerial images of the city were taken this year. I managed to find the 4 days they plane was flying. I went for a long ride during the day the majority of the city was imaged. I compared my track to the plane's track using the time slider in Google Earth and there was only one spot where we came fairly close. Might be able to spot myself in the imagery when it goes live in a month or two.

I've only put 35.5k kilometres on this scooter and I've had it since June last year. That's about 22k miles. I've had some licence suspensions in that time but I usually do about 50k kilometres a year.
I deliver hot food most mornings through to the early afternoon, and I'm servicing this scooter every two months. It's a Honda PCX 160 and it has been almost faultless. I do recommend.

Just been on a 26 mile round trip up and down a disused railway, sun was shining, it was very quiet and peaceful, only saw a handful of folks. That's probably the furthest I've cycled non stop, not counting a brief cider and pork pie break at the halfway point. Took me 3.5 hours.

The 3, 180 degree corners of the BMX track got paved today. Looking on their website it appears that's the only part of the track getting paved. The mosquitos are getting bad, start coming after you any time you stop. Was 30C when I started my ride after supper.

Lower headset bearing in not so good condition. LBS ordered me the wrong size and this one isn't going back in. I'll borrow a bearing from my fat bike until the new ones arrive. Going to have to protect the headset from road spray a bit better riding during spring melts.

It might be worth just getting a new entire headset, if you have let a caged bearing get that bad the races are probably fucked and you'll end up with "indexed steering", ask me how I know. Good opportunity to upgrade to a cartridge bearing.

Swapping the bearing with one from my fat bike fix numerous issues I was having lately. Just the tiniest amount of play in the lower part of the headset caused shaking while using the front brake, the front wheel to oscillate back and forth while riding, various clunking noises, generally shitty handling on rough surfaces.

Although the old bearing was destroyed all the shrapnel was contained within the cartridge so there was no damage to the pressed in alloy frame cup that holds it. Handlebars are butter smooth again.

Yes, it was very gloomy looking yesterday evening but the smoke was at a high altitude so there was no smoke smell at all. There was a day earlier in the week the smoke was thick where I didn't ride.

I just remembered my Strava distance was approaching 123456. Aaaand I overshot it by a bit less than tonight's ride. I had even put a cell on my ride tracking spreadsheet telling me how far away it was, but I hadn't been paying attention to it lately. Could have lengthened yesterdays ride by 4 km to land on it.
