He's right. Especially in the bahamas lol. Honestly feel the same about much of the Hawaiian islands. You'd think they'd be premier bike territory, but it is overwhelmingly designed for cars. Hawaii can be deceptively large though, since people are traveling many miles to the other end of the island for surf and such. If I were the state I'd build bike highways and encourage e-bike use, but also build trams running to the major hubs of beach activity. What's a particularly deranged experience is driving up Haleakalā in Maui. We literally got stuck in a traffic jam on a scenic mountain, and whats even weirder is when we got to the top there really werent that many people. Like, there werent crazy crowds. It was just that the roads up the mountain are thin and windy so the modest amount of people going slowly up and down causes a traffic jam. They should work on putting up gondolas or something. Luckily I wasn't driving for our group, but I felt bad for the driver. He was too afraid of falling off the mountain to actually look around and enjoy the view.

Half of the stuff that NJB talks about is stolen from Strong Towns, which has a lot of terms and definitions that are ill-defined or made up. (The "streets" and "roads" as Marohn describes aren't engineering definitions, therefore his neologism of "stroads" isn't a real thing either). Also when Marohn talks about suburbs, what is he talking about? Is it parts of the city that have single-family houses? The non-downtown areas? Parts of the greater metropolitan area that aren't even part of the city?

The other of NJB's stuff is made up. Like his thing on SUVs, he had six people working on that, and still made a number of errors, like believing SUVs didn't have more room than station wagons (they do), blaming CAFE restrictions for SUV sales in America (in China and Europe SUVs are increasing in market share), making up "facts" about SUV owners (source: my ass), and that's just one video.

There are patterns frequent enough for them to be real things without having an engineer define it and for most people to know what it means. You know what it means too, you're just dishonestly arguing about semantics because you're bothered about something existing outside of a government book.
Or maybe you're just allergic to anything being on a spectrum or being nuanced because of how buck-broken you are by the progs and the trains.

For lack of a better term, there are more than just two roadway "forms" and a third hybrid. It's fine to have that opinion but it's not like it's "official" or unquestionably right.

Which are all wrong or mis-cited (and again, where is the "SUV owners are [x]"). If he and the half-dozen people who did the research and writing actually did their research right he'd know that more than just vans existed in the 1970s and early 1980s as far as large vehicles went. And I'm not even going to get into shilling for the Tyre Extinguishers.
