my general feeling with this sort of thing is that you're generally happy you have it once its over and doen with. there are obvious exceptions, but this doesn't feel like one of them.

I think its not too difficult to see which way the wind is blowing on WFH and how viable its going to be. or even how viable WFH-type jobs are going to be in the future. build this stuff now and you'll be happy you did.

This seems like it would be an exception because there was really no need for this New Terminal in a post-WFH economy. It makes commutes to Penn, where most people are going, longer because trains had to be diverted to GCT. Also, getting from Penn to GCT is like an 8 minute ride on the E train. It was really a pointless extension.

It's barely, if at all, faster than just taking the LIRR to Penn and then taking the subway to Grand Central. It has further fucked up the schedule of the LIRR and lead to worse service overall.
I would have much rather preferred that the MTA use that money to electrify the entire LIRR.
