like if you get a train to houston city centre, then what do you do? you need a car when you're there anyway, so people do the logical thing and take the car the whole way from austin/dallas
fix the cities first, then even regular speed intercity rail will be worthwhile
dallas to houston is a lot shorter than edinburgh to london, and dallas and houston are huge cities compared to edinburgh
edinburgh to london trains are every 30mins, all day (the trains are busy too) - if dallas and houston were built better, this level of frequency would be the minimum
