I don't recommend aluminium chainrings, the crumbs from the anodized surface speed up chain wear and aluminium rings make a lot more noise.
Holy shit, how do you justify $200 for a chainring?

not sure if i've ever seen 144bcd steel chainring, let alone on a track bike... shimano makes pretty good alu chainring, it's called olympic zen, you wouldn't recommend that too, would you?

indoors, but i'm not a regular. whats wrong with taking it to the road? it's a good workout, especially in group rides with roadies

Just the wear and tear from an environment none of the components are made for and I've seen people try to bring their road tires on to the track.

i'd argue that nowadays most bikes have all bearings sealed and it's usually alu/carb/ti frames. rotor is okay, but i don't see how is it different from my miche advanced ring (which is 3x cheaper). aarn seems to have different tooth profile, but not sure if that is relevant.. all 3 are made from same alu plates, maybe i'm overthinking this shit

On my track bike neither headset, nor BB or either hub comes with sealed bearings. BB is a sugino something (?) that I know off the head the others im not sure rn. Frame is steel and bare on the inside.
Youre overthinking it. They're all going to be ally and work. They'll last you a long time.
I switched from Kappstein to Rotor because of a chain in teeth. I couldnt tell any difference so far.

Idk my track bike has a steel chainring, I suspect that has to do with it being from the 80s.
I never tried an aluminium ring on it, but I've had bad experience with them on my MTB, I've switched to a steel prowheel nw ring, that's been flawless.
If it has good anodizing and the chain is kept clean it should last, but spending $200 on a ring would hurt my soul.

the price is unjustifiable for the tangible benefits. it's vanity. especially if you have a steel frame then you don't need to be chasing marginal gains in stiffness or whatever. aarn isn't even all that stiff compared to the more heavy duty zen/omnium style track chainrings since it has the weight-saving hollow sections. if saving weight is a priority to you and you don't want to spend a lot of money on a modular crankset then you could get 130mm BCD sram s300 cranks, a narrow-wide chainring (the stock sram s300 chainring is a flimsy entry level road-style chainring) and a narrow chain. see >>1903446 >>1903448 regarding the chainring and >>1903447 for a pic of how the 48T looks when mounted on a bike. you might also consider upgrading your bottom bracket to like wheels mfg or bbinfinite if you want to chase marginal gains further.
