Honestly the main benefit is I had cyclist imposter syndrome knowing that I had never spent a stupidly unnecessary amount of money on something as frivolous as bike wheels, but not anymore. Now I know I'm not a fraud because what kind of dirtbag loser rices out their bike like that? A dirtbag loser like me that's who. Fuck being fiscally responsible, I want people to think this thing is stolen.

Nice wheels don't make a bad bike feel good, I mean, it'll feel better but it's not the same as slapping nice wheels on a good frame with sharp angles where the difference really shows. Also, keep in mind that wheels are rotational weight, that means they are subjected to speed forces non-linearly which translates to more benefits the faster you are capable of and less the slower you are.

Bicycle geometry is the soul of the bike, softer angles make an easier to handle but slower bike that doesn't take advantage of light high end wheels. Now a bike with sharper angles gives it sharper handling where the benefits of good wheels shine. Most low end frames are designed to have softer geometry to accommodate for their expected demographic. I mean, there are low end frames with knife edge handling but not as common as a high end frame because the target audience for expensive frames is expected to be an advanced rider. This is the unfortunate truth about bike geometry. You can dress up a pig but she'll still be a pig.

I think what you're saying is that a slacker headtube/more fork trail results in a steering patch that has more inertia so to speak, would that be the point? And to "take advantage" means to minimize the energy it takes to manipulate the position of the handlebar/stem/steerer/fork/wheel system at speed (especially I guess at high speed where the rotational velocidensity of the ambifacient wane shaft is maximally replenerated relative to the spurving bearings' precession tendencies). I wonder how much effect the chainstay length has though, unless you count that as an angle my impression is that the chainstay length makes a big difference in how twitchy the bike rides.

So, point taken (I think); and yeah I ride a slackheaded boomer barge for out of shape poseurs such as myself. In fact for me what I notice in terms of improvement is that the bike seems more surefooted due, according to the marketing literature, to less "lightbulbing" (I run fairly wide tires on what were formerly rather narrow rims).

And actually they feel a little scary when the winds get gusty and we're talking like 20mph gusts, I can't imagine how it would be on a real mountain pass.

So I guess that might be the most I can hope for unless I can improve the flexibility of my posterior chain enough to get a more slammable, fred-tastic race geometry frameset.

Pretty much but nice wheels are still nice, I didn't even go into tire profile from rim width but that's also another major factor in handling differences, maybe more so than just the wheel itself. It's also another rabbit hole that goes deep. Bikes might be simple mechanical devices on the surface but every part of the bike can be a deep rabbit hole
