I am 31 and still only have a permit, (Restricted license in TX).

I have a fear of driving due to a lot of accidents when I was younger with alcoholic parents. I'm wanting to get a car.. but I feel I've done a lot without having that car bill.
Any advice for making this happen and buying a car?

i was in the same boat as u, only started driving at 26. started playing racing sims with a good wheel etc and it gave me confidence to start esp because over time i got really good (not bullshitting). started driving and all went fine til those 2 accidents, both of which which fucked my body up bad. but i started driving again as soon as i could and not waiting made it a lot easier than it'd have been if i waited a long time out of panic.

buy a miata if u can, decent on gas, fun and extremely responsive. they arent expensive.

only buy it if u need to tho, if u have good access in public transit jus keep doing that.

This is why 16 year olds are given licenses. But since you started late realize your anxiety is understandable but no big deal.

Also never drive a car drunk or on drugs. Drive stone cold sober and not sleep deprived and you are better off than 1/3 drivers right there.

Also my suggestion for a car in Texas is

Ford focus hatchback. Or
Ford f150 base model with the v6

The focus will be more fun to drive but if you work construction or haul stuff like bikes get a truck.
