How effective would a monorail system like this actually be? Would it be worth the trouble to even do this instead of a regular train? Only upside I can think of is avoiding wildlife and methheads.

They are suitable especially for hillside terrain where it's more expensive to dig up the earth to make the slop flat.
Better sightseeing, plus it won't devastate the hillside as much as a flattening would do.

There is literally a post above yours that shows a double track.

You don't inspect the train while it's out on the bridge, you inspect/service the train while it's parked at its central.

Sorry, I was looking at OP's photo exclusively. I'm aware of monorails like that but again I was looking at OP's monorail. Also, it is true that you can repair trains at depots, but sometimes you have to maintain the rails and its supports too.

monorail is cheaper then regular rail or subway but got a lower capacity

it's more like a tram, metro or lightrail
it's perfect if you got not much space and don't want to interfere with other modes of transport

Worst case is a broken track. If it happens the next rain will run over it with a loud thud.

Do you think they'll only inspect tracks when something happens?
Besides, evacuating a suspended monorail train is much more difficult than regular trains or even a regular monorail.

switches are very difficult and unreliable
maintenance is way more difficult due to working at height and unique parts
more things need to be customised so it makes it more expensive

upside is you'll get a bunch of dweebs visiting the city to see the weird transit system (I went to wuppertal for a day when i was working in dusseldorf, for example)

monorails are typically used in, technologically advanced nations like Germany and Jaspan, they don't walk tracks for inspection , they got cameras and sensors and all this modern space magic

Accidents and evacuation are rare. There are way more exercises then real events.
If a car breaks down you just couple with another car and tow it to the next station.

It's not about the odds, retard, it's about the stakes. Even if a fire is a one-in-a-million chance, if your train is the lucky one you would suddenly wish it was a lot closer to the ground.

Monorail switches are nightmares. Since monorails are less common their construction is less efficient per mile I think I read somewhere. Rolling stock is more expensive. Usually you are better off with elevated LRT or BRT.

The Fallout 76 monorail makes sense as a corporate shuttle, but what's ridiculous is the Fallout 4 monorail, which consists of suspended monorail lines installed inside Boston's subway tunnels and under overhead highways. Makes sense considering organized crime was involved in building it, but it's truly something out of a /n/ shitpost.

in all history of monorails there was never a fire until Mumbai in India got a monorail

the soviets built a few of them. they mostly worked and had no accidents when they were operational. it might be a problem during earthquakes tho so the supporting pylons would have to be made with that in mind

They're not as scary as they seem.
If you're not used to them you'll go downwards pretty slowly, like on a slide that changes directions every couple feet.
If you know how to get through them quickly you won't be afraid of them any more.

The monorail track is higher up, creating the illusion of more open space under the track. The track can also be protected from the elements, at least on those Japanese suspended monorails where the track is covered. Other than that, I don't know.
