Their entire 3 position automatic signalling system was ripped from the Americans, our steam locomotives used Modified Front ends, mechanical stokers, Westinghouse automatic air brakes and pyle national electric lighting from the US. Our rolling stock used Timken Roller bearings and Stones belt driven generators as well as stones air conditioning, among other things.
Our safeworking system was very British but that's because the British actually know how to do safeworking.
The one thing I'm glad we didn't import from the Americans is their aesthetic. The VR locos are very attractive engines for that.
