I happen to live in a university city and they just had graduation. I walked through campus and all the residence halls were closed and emptied, but I saw probably about ten bikes locked up at one or another building. These will eventually be taken by university police and auctioned off, but they don't even do it locally, they ship them all to the state's capital. What's the morality of me going and taking a bike for myself? I could really use a good bike, and it doesn't feel like stealing if it's abandoned, but how can I really know for sure if it's abandoned or if I'm just being a bike stealing cunt? I don't feel like the police or the government have any more right to claim and sell off abandoned goods than the general public do, but I also don't want to steal some poor college kid's bike if they were actually coming back for it. What's your opinio/n/?
