Have airlines always been this shitty or is it just a new thing lately? I'm seeing assloads of canceled flights.

Given how bad (and how expensive) airline service is in America, you'd think more people would wake up to the need for high-speed rail. Obviously HSR is going to give a comparable or better product when the current product is this bad.
