No one will say it out loud, but the possibility of death is what makes all wheeled racing sports watchable. It's not that anyone wants someone to die, they just want a reminder that someone COULD die.

Eh the appeal of NASCAR isn't really with any sort of serious risk, those things are safe as hell and have been for decades. Dale himself was the last guy to die in a race and that was 2001, and there have only been 10 total fatalities since 1980. You're far more likely to die driving around town at 30mph than you are on a NASCAR track. It's "thrilling" in the same sense a roller coaster is - the speed creates a sense of danger but the things are meticulously safety-tested and even if something does go wrong, chances are it's not going to kill you. It's crazy the kind of crashes those cars can go through with the driver still able to get out and walk away afterwards

braking is a bit tricky sometimes, mostly you want to lose as much speed as possible before reaching a corner.
at a high enough speed steering just sort of stops working, as attempts to compensate for gyroscopic force come into conflict with a lack of traction and stability.
already the bike has problems during a corner, so very little braking effect can be had during a corner, other than to slightly alter the handling of the bike

I guess by 'hill' OP means the stone structure on the hillside? This culvert (at least it looks like a culvert of sorts) seems to be located in a rather particular spot on the terrain surface, with a relative minimum in the direction transverse to the culvert and an inflection in the direction parallel to it, as if in the bottom of a sort of half-funnel, which means that anyone that happens to attempt cycling around it (which basically means above it as below lies some very steep downhill terrain) will be forcibly pulled towards the culvert. I guess that explains why Sheffield and Mäder ended up so close to one another, apparently crashing into the structures of that culvert.
