>>1923453Doesn't really work with cars. Being insulated in a metal and glass box from other people in insulated metal boxes, in addition to being able to just "run off", has a staggering effect on social behavior.
Road rage is like those videos of dogs barking and hollering across a fence and then having that fence open only for them to act like nothing was up. You feel safe acting like an asshole in a car, outside of it you feel vulnerable and exposed so you don't.
Humans are prideful and fantasize a lot about "what they would do in that situation" etc. and it's hard to accept that when shit hits the fan your self preservation is stronger than your ego.
Me and my friend were travelling by bike some 200 km when we were 16. A guy in a compact buzzed us from a blind right turn. We reflexively yelled "Hey!" and did the "what the hell?" hand in the air. The guy stepped on it in reverse, got out of his car, came to his trunk, did the intimidating wide hands and started screaming "What!? What?!". He wasn't even bigger than us, but he looked buzzed and like he's on something. We froze, he froze, he got back in his car and drove off.
My friend had this whole crisis of cope. "We're not like that!" "We should've said something back!" "That's not us!" etc.
He was prideful, had a big ego, sense of grandeur and lived in his head too much. It showed a lot and is partly the reason we're not friends anymore.
