Never been on it, but I hear it's an okay system. From what I understand it started originally as a showpiece for the World Expo 1986 but the city quickly realized that, hey, maybe it's time we build a heavy rail rapid transit system? So they did but by the 1980s, capitalism made everything expensive just because it could, so they built it elevated as tunnel boring and cut and cover tunnels cost a lot of money.
IMO for a city/metro area that is approaching 3 million people - which is also situated in a geographically unique area meaning density is a necessity - they should expand the system already. The Vancouver metro area is pretty suburban, so some heavy investment in new skytrain lines now could promote transit oriented development and density. Doesn't seem like they're expanding it much, unfortunately. But that could be due to the fucking insane cost of living in Vancouver.
