As long as you don't just view it as some temporary vacation home, and make an effort to get to know and get involved with your local community, it's a great place. People are very welcoming, both locals and transplants. Unfortunately having a remote tech job means you aren't really contributing in the best way, unless you're really spending a lot of that money to patronize local businesses. But overall if you're friendly and open, people will treat you the same. Look up Puakea Nogelmeier. Haole boy but everyone loves him and Hawai'i welcomed him with open arms, and he invested so much into here. All that said, visit first. Aloha.
