Do you walk through the metal detectors at your transportation hubs/stations? Here in the UK, the transport police like to come and put them up randomly and wait by them. The thing is there is no legal requirement for anyone to walk through (installed in publicly accessible areas) but 99% of people do. Anyone carrying a weapon is unlikely to use them.

What's your stance?

Yet another clueless retard thinking they're qualified to speak on behalf of everyone: they do that when there's an event on. OP's image is of the tram platforms at Manchester Victoria, so I'd guess there's a match on at Old Trafford ... thus the transport police and the metal detector.

Weird how the football ground outgrew its own railway station, but both it and the cricket ground can share a tram stop without any issue

What are the guidelines as to what you can have on you and not?
I typically keep a small knife on me in an easily accessible pocket. It's a tool, and not even for self defense.

nope, unless you've a valid reason.

Truth is, unless you're the type of person who walks around flashing a knife everywhere or intend to use it in self-defence it doesn't matter. My go to pocket knife is a 4inch locking opinel, but I only carry it on hikes.

Maybe at the entrances of certain buildings (airports, government buildings like city hall, court houses or correctional buildings like provincial or federal jails) but we sure as hell don't have random metal detectors in any train stations or rapid transit stations to my knowledge.

I've lived here 31 years and never had to go through a metal detector. OP's image was of when there's an event on at the arena that tram stop is a part of. The same one where there was a terrorist attack.

There is a metal detector at the bus hub, but it's in the middle of wide open corridor and I don't think it's even turned on. Probably only used during big events.
Metal detector at the train station is beeping all the time at people, but again no one gives a fuck unless you look suspicious to begin with.
