My gf and I live in a pretty bikable small sized city (Bend OR) and we do well just sharing a car. We have it when we need it for going /out/ and errands, which is still annoyingly fragmented into a gharish commercial development north of town.

We both bike commute most days and the car typically gets no more than 300 or so miles a month. I feel like this is probably the best you'll do, since its still nice to have a car it just sucks having to pay for one. Cutting the costs in half takes that sting out, all tolled its like $75 a month each to operate it and the payment is $115 each (we put a lot down and only took out a 24 month loan).

Situations like this is where I really wish cheaper rentals were an option. I drive my car maybe 4-5 times a month, but it's a pain in the ass to maintain and somewhat expensive for how little I use it.

For small towns...most literally anywhere in continental Europe with less than 10'000 people. The smaller the better. Note you would still need a car to get around outside of the town and for running errands because most don't have good or any buses or anything, but you can easily leave your car at home 90% of the time and only use it for grocery shopping or leaving the town, though there are also trains and bikes.

I am a good man (I think). Never been in a relationship before, so I can't say for sure. And yea, you're right I am trying to get rid of the autism/spaghetti but I am not naive about expectations. I was just in Philly for a work conference and holy shit it's a fucking dump. Some nice people, but I'll be damned if every black person working customer-facing jobs isn't dumber than a box of rocks. I'm not even coping about cities; I live in one now. The one good thing I'll say about Philly is that it seems like a lot of businesses survived the pandemic somehow, which is more than can be said for even some of the nicer cities in America.

You have some kind of fantasie over small cities it seems, but there are plenty of big cities that are walkable so I don't see the point of ruining your life by moving to a small European city, unless you're poor.
