Are V-brakes dead?
I can understand why they're obsolete for MTBs, but they seem to be a perfect choice for all terrain/adventure bikes.
From my own experience they offer similar or better breaking power than mechanical disc brakes.

Hydraulic disc brakes are better than anything before. Easy to maintain, never fading and nearly unlimited stopping power.
They are used in nearly all categories of the sport except track cycling because they are BETTER.

I only have long pull V brake bikes and I plan to keep it that way forever.

V-brakes are wonderful. The original complaint from people is that they were "too strong" and sent people otb. Now they are "too weak" and "dangerous". Horse shit

We can also thank V brakes for proving that consumers will happily swallow any shit the marketing departments want to feed them. The forced shift to Disc led me to abandoning modern manufacturers and becoming a neo retro grouch. Fuck disc

My bike has disc brakes on the rear wheel and V brakes on the front wheel. The V brakes make an annoying squealing noise while the disc brakes are completely silent. This matters more to me than stopping power.

Mini vs are a compromise for drop bar bikes. Regular vs require long pull levers, all brifters are short pull necessitating travel agents, mini v's, or cantilevers.

You need to realign the pads as time goes on, they need to be centered, oiled, kept clean. They can freeze up in the winter, rust with salt. The braking power disappears in anything but clean conditions. Dirty conditions wear the rim.

Ironically your average normie would be better off with hydro disc brakes that are squealing from a performance and ease of maintenance standpoint. Learning to bleed a lever every other year is easier than half the shit you do for v brakes for a normie.

Get resin pads, maybe mechanical disc brakes, or a heavier wheelset/tire. Oh and smaller rotors.
Never had an issue with modulation on my mountain bike, but I weigh 100kg+ and have pretty good finger control.
I actually prefer to use more fingers and be gentler on the brakes instead of 1 finger pulling hard.

Are disc brakes too good at stopping the bike? Like in a going downhill situation. Regular cycling, not downhill mountain biking. If you lock the front wheel, you are going over the handlebars.

Maybe I am just used to ancient cantilevers.
I routinely had the opposite problem.
I would be riding home on the wet, and on a descent have to start braking halfway down to slow myself before the light.

Yeah, that probably happened but after 20 seconds of gripping I just thought "well I can always bail if required".
Pic related are the same brake, although I had red kool-stop pads(which were better then the ancient ones on it).

They did give great modulation but generally I wanted more for hard descents.

Always found tires made the biggest difference. Shit tires at high pressure I could wash out with cantilevers I bet.
