>Molten Speed WaxAs expected the initial wear is
basically negligible – within
tolerance of measuring, however
some wear presents from 250 to
500km. For racing it is
recommended to re-wax every
300km as that is the very low
friction zone, and we saw in clean
blocks with runs up to 400km that
wear was still nil. So around 400km
would be the general max limit
before wax gets too thin and any
embedded contamination can begin
acting on chain. Beyond that wear
rates and friction increase at a
notable rate.
>Rock N Roll Gold (wet lube)tests very well for outright efficiency (refer Friction Facts). If applied to a properly cleaned chain as per instructions (liberally and given
ample time to dry and form film / membrane) it does remain impressively clean and smooth for likely up to around 300 to 400km in clean dry conditions.
This makes Rock n Roll gold a good choice as a race chain lubricant. Emphasis again on applying to a fully CLEAN chain, and depending on length of the race
if the conditions are expected to be wet another lubricant choice may need to be considered. 60km club race – likely fine – 100km race – you could be
riding the last hour or so with no lubrication other than water and grit.
It does show up some recordable wear even in the first 1000km block, and a surprising amount of black fluid is able to be wiped off chain after even first
400km – so the emphasis for this lube to remain high performance for racing is full cleaning, regular re lubing and shorter events.
if you do the same full clean with a solvent you can get a low wear rate with a drip lube
check the reviews of this chain with google translate, some say 8000-9600km probably without waxing or full solvent cleaning. and a singlespeed drivetrain can be run into the ground if you don't care about the sprockets. the chain is officially rated to 3500+ km on a mid-drive e-bike.
