The main problems with metallic 3D printing is that you don't get to choose the same alloys you otherwise would, and you won't get the same grain structure as forged parts, so the fatigue limits will be lower.
Printed parts will have to be built heavier to reduce the stress in the material, but they will gain some of that mechanical advantage back with better geometry.
