if you have them, it's a non-issue. but there's no reason to get clamp-on bosses and install them instead of brifters on a new build .
if your bike has stem shifters, though, I'd recommend the easy conversion to downtube, unless you really want to shell out for brifters on a shit bike that came with stem shifters.
