>>1945292That's the problem ain't it, even though Marin really wanted to be part of Bart originally (and would still benefit) they'll nimby as hard as possible to stop that kind of carless migration because Bart's just the schizo train now. I wonder if those new fare gates will actually do anything. Smart's in the same boat as Bart just with hardly any defenders outside the SCTA and train dorks. I'd like to see it be more useful but Sonoma is largely a refuge for bayfags trying to escape SF and the East bay now.
>>1945355Lot of the rail and associated infrastructure was in poor shape but I'd be interested to see an actual cost breakdown. It's the story of modern American infrastructure and especially any transit infrastructure. Everyone involved has an incentive to delay the project and contribute to cost overruns as much as possible. Endless contractors and bureaucrats, lawyers lining up to rapid fire litigation, fucking up or otherwise stalling the process is easily monetized. The project originally started back in 2006 or something hilarious. There's no future in which people are going to live in Sonoma and commute to jobs in Marin or vice versa. I think they'll eventually push up to Windsor but not to Healdsburg by the time funding runs out. At least the airport remodel is justifiable since there was/is enough tourism and business travel demand to require upgrades. Was almost involved in that one too but big dick contractors wanted to do everything as usual.
I don't think there's a viable path for it but would be nice if there was a tram or something to connect from the airport station to the actual airport but probably easier to ferry people back and forth on a golf cart if they insist. I don't know who's flying into STS then taking the train down.
