Why are american metros and railways so slow?

Came across this video and while it is fascinating, its fucking insanity how arduously slow the train is. It's like American fat slow-walkers decided to make their trains just as slow too.

They’re not always that slow. MTA trains go about 55mph at full speed. But yes they are slow often

Back when I used the subway in phily the train speed never was a problem (not counting that derailment caused by some idiot going too fast).
You got to where you were going on time and it was way more reliable and consistent then dealing with the bus lines.
Really the main negative was every single station no matter how often it was cleaned still smelled of piss.
It wasn't even just homeless people, some of the regular commuters would just act like it's fine to piss in some random corner of the station whenever the urge struck them, and get offended if you looked judgmentally at them for doing it.
Like bro the station has a fucking bathroom 40 or so yards from where you pissed. You could have made it if you wanted to.

because trains were invented in like 1800 and are the slowest possible form of transit. taking a subway or bus into NYC makes the trip 4 times as long as driving. plus you have to deal with the disgusting subhumans that are new yorkers

Actually it used to be faster, then some corrupt union workers put their nepo babies on the tracks and they got themselves killed and ever since the system has been forced to run at super slow speeds. When I first started taking the subway to work (pre 9/11) it was considerably faster than a car

Good question. When I took Amtrak I was wondering the same thing. I downloaded a speedometer app and we were only going 30 mph at top speed between stations.
