i'm a leaf and seat belts are mandatory up here in cars but buses also drive on the same roads and highways as i do;
has there ever been discussion about adding seat belts on buses or trains?

Busses and trains are heavy and built to last so a seat belt is not required because the force felt by the passengers small. Your mass produced shitbox is designed to crumble into a thousand pieces when backed into in a parking lot, which is why you need a seatbelt.

Whenever a bus comes off a road (which is often) and turns over there are bad injuries and casualties that could've been prevented with seatbelts.

Not nearly as often as cars roll over. Would people use seatbelts if they were added to busses? Most probably wouldn't, and they don't have cabin crew like planes who can enforce it.

Some wouldn't and some would. I know I would buckle up my kids and myself if I went on a bus.

Ditto GB since 2001, with the explicit exemption of 'vehicles designed for urban use with standing passengers', i.e. your average city bus or tram, for obvious pragmatic reasons.

Pretty much anything else that doesn't predate the laws are legally required to have seatbelts, and you're legally required to wear them. There's nothing in law that requires or exempts seatbelts in trains, but given that they're statistically safer than road vehicles by a massive margin, the 'reward' in terms of lives saved wouldn't be worth the expense & hassle.

i've ridden the ttc (subway) for many years while commuting to college in my youth and the majority of riders are forced to stand due to the design of the trains, its obviously unfeasible to expect everybody in there to have a seat belt. however, saying buses are heavy and therefore don't require seatbelts seems backwards to me

i rode to the school bus in high school and with the height of the seats, they could realistically accommodate 3 point seat belts for all of the seats. it wasn't a thing back then, don't know if its a thing currently either

I live in a hilly area so it gets pretty bumpy wouldn't want to fall asleep and wake up on the floor
