The thing with snapping aluminum is manufacturers tend to build frames to a specification. So a 2000's aluminum race road bike wouldn't be a good choice, but a 90's steel mountain bike, a 2000's freeride hardtail(aluminum) or some other tank of a bike would be good.
>TLDRaluminum is fine, steel is fine. Just run a heavy duty frame with large tires(for your comfort) and ride. I would run disk brakes too, but considering the occupation I suspect those may be hard to find.
