Why people always argue about rim vs hydraulic disc brakes when this thing exist? Low and easy maintenance like rim brake, yet have enough stopping power like hydraulic disc brake

Mech discs are shit, no exceptions, even if a single caliper costs $250. Cable hydros are much better like Juin-Tech or TRP Hy/Rd but full hydros are the best.
Rim brakes are good, great even except in rain and mud expecially on carbon rims, those are rolling near death experience.

Most mechanical disc brakes feel sketchy due to them only actuating one side and bending the disc while braking. But to be fair I've been running Avid BB7s on my CX-bike for years and I've never had a technical issue.

I know most of you are poorfags since you recommend some chinese shit brakes. Hydraulic has so many objective benefits e.g. braking faster in wet conditions (I know most of you are too pussy to ride in the wet with your shitty '90s mountain bikes'). Btw servo wave feels great I never want to go back to some shit you folks talked me into buying.

This. BB7 with speed dial 7 levers will give you all hydros do without the fuss of fade, bleeding, leaks, custom parts etc.

Bonus points for uncompressible jagwire housings for rear.

Since we're shilling, I'll pipe in too.
Avid disc levers are clean and pleasingly designed. I use them for all brake systems and makes.
I used to have a CNC milled dual pull disc caliper by rockshox of all companies, from the early nineties. Wish I still did, way ahead of it's time.
As far as calipers trp or avid are the way. I'm sure klampers are nice but that's for a boutique budget build.
Cable pull are not disposable unlike the planned obsolescence of hydros. cables don't boil or leak.
A 203 up front and a 180 in the back is enough for anything.

For MTBs I suggest Alhonga MD11. Cheap, eat regular shimano pads and very strong. I have four sets between two bikes. For road stuff I am evaluating a Chinese knockoff of TRP Spyres.

Yeah hydraulic is just outright better; better power, better feel, better longevity, there’s no argument for cables other than price and ease of maintenance (which is good because you’re going to be doing a lot more of it with cables), there’s no “I want hydraulic, but with the ____ of cables” or anything like that, hydraulic is just superior

Enjoy your $60 off when buying a set of brakes, I’ll enjoy better performance in literally all situations as well as 1/3 of the maintenance schedule as you. Hell I’m being nice and assuming a nice expensive set of hydraulics, you can get $40 sets of hydraulics brakes that will most likely last just as long as the nice hydraulics, as evidenced by my MT-401/420’s from 2019. You just may not get the more guaranteed annual reliability of something like my Code RSCs, but the cheap hydraulics have proven to be reliable too

For flat bar cable mech makes zero sense unless you happen to have some cool parts for it around or just like experimenting. Hydraulics are simply too good value. I honestly see myself buying a new set of cantilevers before a cable actuated caliper.

For road bikes it's a bit different story since most of the single pot calipers suck dick and the hoods only geometry forces a suboptimal angle on the lever. Cable actuated calipers aren't that much worse than the regular hydraulic road calipers, same goes for rimjobs. The Hope RX4 is a different story though, I bought these and literally first time I've enjoyed braking from hoods.

Lol you mean turning a barrel adjuster once in a while ?
Afaik with cheap hydros it's more bang for the buck to throw them away and buy entirely new ones than to service them. As well how much customization comes with hydros ? Can you easily tune everything about the pull on a whim? Repair them on the fly ? I once had a rock bounce and cut my cable. A lil solder and a dab torch, voila.
And anyway I'm just not racing. Yeah if I raced professionally I'd run a carbon frame with hydros and tubeless tires but I don't. Same reason I don't run racing slicks and oversized discs on my car. What I have and prefer works, and I do enjoy it. I don't need to spend money on shit I don't want or need.

I have multiple sets of 10 year old hydros. Shimano/mineral oil ones work almost as good as new.
DOT ones could use a bleed, but still work.

I just installed hydraulic brakes on my bike and it's crazy how much nicer they are than the TRP Spyres I've been using for years.

not that I am struggling but if you have used flat bar levers all your life and then go to a modern drop bar bike that is designed to be ridden from hoods, the angle of pull doesn't really make sense.

I've done a good amount of SS+GOMAD so my legs look better than my cycling performance lol

I've had Hayes CX Experts, Avids, Shimano CX something or other and Spyres for mech disc

the Hayes CX Experts were the cheapest by far and way better than everything else I've owned.

Are they? Mine are pretty meh. Power is there just fine, but they have the tendency to back the pads out for some reason. My experience with hayes CX-5 is similar to yours - fine brakes.
