there are exactly zero governments that will let you fly anything without an incredibly difficult and expensive license and mass adoption of these won't work at all since airports need to restrict huge amounts of airspace.

Their advantages compared to helicopters are

They probably won't be appealing to the average person until battery tech improves more, but for things like medivacs, air taxis and emergency services they might be better than helicopters.

Most planes don't need all engines to fly, but rather to fly economically and being able to take off with a shitton of fuel.

If your device needs four rotors to stay in the air everyone of them is a single point of failure.
Of one dies the thing goes down.

The OP hat 8 rotors, so maybe one per corner can fail without it tumbling down.
If not, it has 8 single points of failure

They don't have to be better at everything, if they are cheaper to build and operate, are able to operate in environments that helicopters can't and operate more often then they have a niche that people will use them for.

multis will never be a mainstream method of transporting human sized payloads. never. because disc loading is the only thing that matters about a rotorcraft is the ratio of disc area to weight and four small circles are always worse than one big circle. there's no technical fix for this and there never will be.

if you examine and understand the physics of rotorcraft there is exactly zero chance of multis ever being better than conventional helicopters for carrying human payloads. It is not a thing. If you scale a spider up to the size of an elephant, many of the physiological mechanisms that make a spider a viable organism fail. If you scale a multicopter up, you don't reduce the engineering problems of a helicopter you multiply them by four or more.

From what I understand nearly all of the companies trying to make evtols are doing all of their construction in house instead of buying parts from other companies and assembling them, most of them want to mass produce these vehicles, if they can do that it reduces the cost of manufacturing making the vehicle itself cheaper, because they use electric motors instead of internal combustion the vehicles have fewer moving parts which causes less wear from use which also reducing maintenance costs.
They run on electricity alone which reduces operating costs.
They can be made extremely easy to fly (at least as easy to fly as a drone) which means they can reduce the cost and time it takes to train pilots (and that's before even bringing up the possibility of autonomous flight which many of them are pursuing) meaning the cost of hiring pilots is reduced.

And for the noise levels? Several evtol companies have performed demonstration flights and had the decibel levels of their rotors compared to that of different helicopters.

It seems far quieter than that of helicopters

Now you can argue that evtols have faults because no doubt they do but focus on their actual problems instead of shitting your pampers and insisting that they are some impossible technology when clearly if nothing else they actually are capable of flying and objectively do produce less noise, are lighter and probably cheaper than helicopters.

Here is the thing. There is hover and there is cruise. In cruise aircraft can get left from wings and body and greatly reduce need for lift form rotors therefore power requirements massively reduce. Also at higher speeds (at cruise) higher disk loading rotors become more efficient.
Thus idea of convertiplane. It lifts as helicopter but flies as airplane. Problem is you need big as motor to lift vertical with high disk loading and big ass hydrocabron motors dont throttle down efficiently Big motor throttled down to 10% consumes fuel much more than small motor at 80% throttle.
Here is comes electricity for the rescue. Electric motors throttle down perfectly without loss of efficiency. So pure electric or hybrid convertiplane can be more efficient than helicopter overe teh corse of the flight (aslo can be faster and much quieter during cruise)

Actually military helicopters are by and large being replaced by tiltrotor aircraft like the v-22 osprey and v-280 valor, medium range helicopters are still just helicopters, and evtols are being pushed to replace urban helicopter use.
I don't know of any place where quadcopters are being pursued as a replacement for anything actually.

You can't use them as ambulances, the carrying capacity is too limited.

You can't use them as air taxi, it's more energy consuming than a normal taxi on the toad.
You only have an extremely limited market of chinese cities where these things can freight stuff from the rooftops of a skyscraper to another skyscraper. But for what purpose? So the CEO can get to his favourite restaurant 5minutes faster? Seems pointless.

You can use them for delivery of goods ordered from online. Probably.
If you live in a large apartment complex, there are certain challenges in ground operating drones who have to navigate traffic and use stairs and elevators
But you would need to redesign your apartment buildings if you want an air drone to deliver you goods at your apartment window. It's too much effort to rebuild all apartment buildings.
