Not quite the same, but my local station has the longest single-span escalators in the Western Hemisphere at 70 meters. (there are some longer escalators that use multiple escalators in series)

Yeah that's fair. My local station is picrel actually. I used to like it a lot but the concentration of bums make it the only shitty station in the neighbourhood, or even the borough at this point.

Yonge Street was named after Sir George Yonge, 5th Baronet who was some sort of British aristocrat who was autistic about ancient Roman roads.

Calgary isn't that bad, better than Edmonton or Van. As for stations I think Sunnyside has the most charm, I do like that the city new it's neighborhoods and potential customers because most of the north east stations are just grey concrete blocks.

it may seem nice until you realize the station building is closed permanently, you only have 2 separate platforms accessible from the shady overpass tunnels, and the neighborhood next to it is extremely "multicultural". it could become a nice place if they connected the station building directly to the platforms, fixed the demographic issue, and redeveloped the low density area directly in front of it. but i don't see any of that happening.

I usually bike everywhere so I'm a chad from the waist down. This station used to be filled with crackheads before they remodeled it, like kensington philly but localized to one block, you couldn't get in without hearing "yo you got a swipe?"

ironically, the gauge was originally 1435 mm, but was quickly changed to 1664 mm (5 Portuguese feet), still in 1860, then in 1955 to the current 1668 as a middle ground to Spanish original 1672 mm gauge (6 Spanish feet). no one cares about your feels about it though...

It's still the same, they replaced the escalators about 5-10 years back, and that's really the only change.

In 2011 the average escalator age for DC Metro stations was almost 30 years old, now the average escalator age is just under 10 years old. A big improvement that WMATA plans to keep going with the goal to keep the average age under 10 years old.

Let's talk about big open platforms that feature either just a roof or shack for passengers.
