it's honestly not that hard since melbourne has the largest tram network in the world, but we could do a lot better and it's cheaper than any other infrastructure

The reason the MTA is unable to meet the needs of new yorkers is that there are too many influencers who have no stake in the quality of life for NYC people, and have no real interest in making the city better. It's a good metaphor for "urbanism" and yimby shit in general. People from irrelevant uninhabited wastelands sticking their loud obnoxious opinions where they aren't welcome

I’m actually pretty happy with my city’s progress. I’ve met several of the planners and they’re all working in the right direction. We’re ending parking minimums city-wide and building bike lanes.

Just more housing. My hometown has a bunch of parking lots downtown that don't really get used. We also have super wide streets so if you built housing over the parking lot you could just add parallel parking out in front and that would happily park all the residents while still keeping 3 lanes for traffic.

I meant angled parking. I think angled parking is pretty underrated by both urbanists and cagebrains. It gets a lot of parking in, slows down car traffic, and eliminates the need for offstreet parking. It's not good for New York or Chicago but in a Sunbelt city it's a great move.

Extend the Manchester Metrolink to Stockport. Also connect the lines so you can go from Wythenshawe Town Centre to Withington. Withington is not an exciting stop, but nobody ever gets on or off there and it's directly between Chorlton and Didsbury so this would persuade people to use it because those are very popular locations.

Wait, it's even more disappointing than that.
All of the parts in gray were dug up in the 1970s, all they have to do is put down rails, hook it up to electricity, and build some stairs and elevators. Somehow doing that and digging out the tiny bits in blue and orange and yellow will take 8 years and God knows how many billions.
