Are these things a meme or viable? Stuck between this and an ebike. Will be using for paved and gravel road travel.

They are perfectly viable.
But for gravel road you wll need high tier $2000+ models with big 18"+ wheel and suspension, with less gravel would be unpleasant.

Modern high performance models are beyond comfortable lifting weights indeed. But you barely need to lift them. If you can't ride in some place you can walk and roll EUC like a travel bag, and 18" and large wheells you can push roll up and down the stairs. You can ride stairs down with 18" and suspension easy peasy, though it's kinda of extreme anyway (but easier than any skateboard tricks).
Overall you just don't need to lift them from the ground so weight is not that big deal.

even the shittiest ebike is better than these things, especially on uneven or offroad surfaces. the only advantage is portability, but you can get that with a folding ebike.

According to me, hitting the asphalt at that speed with no abrasion resistance or impact softening gear would result in a shitload of pain and lost skin. Also according to me: play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I ride bike 365, and they are gone with first autumn leafs and mud. Not once I've seen one in winter. They have their limitations. Get it if you're interested in the novelty or fun part, but e-bike is going to be better for "viability", if you have place for one.
