It's not a major city, barely a city at all, but literally the only actual public transit, our buses, are shut on ALL statutory holidays. -_-

From reading comments online it seems pretty accepted in London and the UK but I’m struggling to find any other major places in the world that do that.

Britain has a stick up its ass about working on Sundays and public holidays. Businesses still can't operate 24/7 in England and Wales due to laws restricting Sunday trading hours (Scotland is exempt though). Even on a fucking weekday in most midsized regional centres, most high streets shut down by 4-5pm.

Banks also have weirdly limited hours for a country that is such a financial hub.

In Germany, most rural services stop running early on Christmas Eve, and services in the city are also severely limited from about 4-6pm onwards, depending on the city. But usually the 25th and 26th is run with a normal Sunday timetable

i suppose train drivers will have employment contracts, unlike uber drivers, which of course lay out pay rates, when they're expected to work, and so on, unlike uber where teeeeechnically they can choose when they work at their own convenience
