LA's negative impact on nature as it relates to sprawl is almost entirely the energy costs and emissions incurred by all the traffic. The other main blight of Los Angeles on nature is water consumption which is minimally affected by sprawl ("b-b-but lawn irrigation--" nope, that's barely 7% of total consumption)
