I think a lot about how much easier it is to sell a bike in a city. You have a soso bike you want to get rid of? You'll have a line of broke dumb students waiting. You have a nice frame? you got more critical mass.
It is unfortunate really, we shit on city dwellers when it's time to ride but when it's time to sell it's a pain.

You're just making your own life harder/attracting low ballers. Presentation matters a lot because most people don't know exactly how nice a bike is or isn't, only how nice it looks in the pictures. But if youve got a nice piece then ultimately I'd agree, a buyer who knows will know better than to judge it from some poopy on the chain stays.

I kinda like selling bikes because I get to talk about the whip to potential buyers, get them excited. Last time I sold a touring bike the buyer offered to take me on a flight in his private airplane, we still email each other our bike tour journal entries now and then

Back when I was fixing and flipping bikes, I ordered a box of cheapo chink blinkers and made it a rule that no bike leaves my shop without lighting. People seemed to like it.

found this bad girl covered in rust and filth.
spent $80 on parts. spent a really long time cleaning and getting rust off with steel wool. spent my normal amount of time tuning it to perfection.
I had to relist it for I think 4 but maybe 6 months but I did get my asking price of $200. it wouldn't have been worth all the effort for less but for people like us, it's not worth that much since it's a gaspipe shitter. getting it super shiny and taking nice pics were crucial to getting that price I'm sure. and, despite all the relisting, it sold to the first girl that I showed it to, so that was cool.

I don't know if it helped, but I took pics of all the parts I bought still in the packaging and included them in the listing to emphasize that I spent money fixing it up. what I didn't include were the receipts since it was all the cheapest stuff on scamazon. it was fine, tho, kmc chain etc. but cheap, bargain priced stuff

Sell at a 10-20% more than the minimum you would like to seel.
When the client arrives dont talk too much, let them do the questioning and answer politely.

Thats pretty much my experience with selling shit numerous time, being bikes, gym equipment etc.

im trying to buy a bike and struggling with sellers
the markets so fucked rn especially in the uk
sellers want silly money for bad condition bikes or bikes that were awful even new
lots of weird duplicate ads and scams
alot of people dont respond
lots of stolen looking bikes too
nobody will cooperate anymore
and i had to just throw away multiple bikes that nobody seemed to want to buy no matter how much i lowered the price

clean it and take a nice profile drive side picture in good lighting
less people will scroll right past
if the bike looks bad even if its just dirt or a bad photo its gonna impact peoples perception of its condition right away

something else I didn't mention, but if you're selling a gaspipe shitter, as long as you keep it below Walmart prices, you can at least leverage the fact that it's cheaper than that. we bike guys can service the bike well, and you can point out that the Walmart BSOs were put together by some subliterate moron who works at Walmart. these are things I mentioned to the seller.
I think Walmart bikes are currently starting around $200, so that works in our favor when selling to normies, at least
