Maybe if it's heavily rusted, missing key parts, etc. I wouldn't take that one unless I had seen it unmoved for a long time. The chain looks like it's been relatively freshly greased, just dirty.

I mentioned my stance in another thread and some hoarder freaks had a conniption and said it's the fall of the west because not everyone lives surrounded by heaps of dumpster dived and broken shit in boxes (apparently putting your garbage that you pathologically can't throw out in boxes makes it not mental illness)

There's always better. I dump bikes all the time--trying to keep my fleet small and limited to bikes I enjoy. This one was some sort of GT beach cruiser with a 3-speed Nexus hub that I fixed up years ago after it was abandoned in front of my home covered in oil or paint. I just hated how it felt while riding it. Loved the look of the frame though, but to the curb it returned eventually after building better bikes.

It was probably stolen in the first place. Don't take shit that don't belong to you. If it's clearly abandoned then turn it in to the police lost and found, and if nobody claims it within however many months you can take ownership of it.

If the bike clearly isn't used, don't take anything from it.

If you want, tie some string to it that must be removed to ride. You'll know in a week if the bike is abandoned

if its not rusty its probably not abandoned and if it is rusty its just not worth taking unless its for scrap metal or stripping for the few surviving parts that probably arent even worth anything rly
sometimes i am tempted though when i see a frame or a wheel chained to something without the rest of the bike but desu the lock is probably more worth it to steal than the bike or its parts are
