Why did the old style narrow 26x1 ⅜ style wheels go out of favor? I love these things, they're very snappy.

I haven't seen fractional measurements on a mtb tire in a long time.
I agree that something around the 1.5in range is great for road+dirt road work. Bikes marketed to normies are now e-bikes, and those don't require efficiency.
Thus you see fatbike e-bikes riding the bike paths where you can hear the tire whirring 50yards away.

Every wheel size has it's use case. 26in is better for short people, heavy people/hard impacts, or quick handling.
700c is good for high speed on the flats and decents. Also good for fitting larger tires on 27in touring bikes.
650b is good for fitting large tires on older 700c bikes.

Tubeless is annoying unless you are offroading, or getting punctures.
inch sizing is superior.

I use a 26x1.5 in a small, but densely populated town with lots of cars, hills and narrow street with some bad asphalt . Honestly? It fits me. It's nimble as fuck, easy to carry up and down stairs and it's comfortable around small bumps in the road.

No problem, maine. I was just saying, if I used a thinner tired in muh bike, I would be fucked cuz of the asphalt over here is that bad. I've used an 26x1.0 when I first started and it hurted me. While I've lost in acceleration, I've gained in the average speed for not having to use the brakes a lot.
